Barcelona winger Ansu Fati has rejected a move to Tottenham and will instead join Brighton on loan.
The 20-year-old has struggled for playing time at Barca, starting just 12 games in La Liga last season.
Fati was also advised to leave Barcelona by his own father, who said during an interview in March that he was angered by Xavi’s treatment of his son.
The winger had received plenty of interest this week in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, with Spurs, Chelsea, Brighton and Borussia Dortmund all keen on a move.
Tottenham had reached an agreement with Barcelona over a loan deal for Fati and reports in Spain had claimed that Ange Postecoglou had spoken with the winger about his role in Spurs’ side.

However, Fati has rejected a move to Spurs and has opted to join Brighton on loan for the season.
It’s understood that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was a key factor behind Fati’s decision.
Fati’s exit has now paved the way for Joao Felix to join Barcelona from Atletico Madrid.
The Portugal international, who failed to impress during his loan spell at Chelsea last season, has been one of Barca’s top targets this summer.
