Berlin defence funding shift triggers huge bets on growth The Financial Times reports that investors are betting on a “big boost” to Germany’s “ailing economy” as a result of a “historic” deal to fund military and infrastructure development. Analysts believe the plan could boost economic growth to as much as 2% next year, the paper says. China’s Xi has set out ambitious growth targets for the country despite trade tensions with the US hurting China’s economy. US has stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, stopping Kyiv from being able to hit back at Russia.

Yet another growth hit for Reeves CITY AM reports the Chancellor’s growth agenda was dealt a fresh blow on Thursday after the British Chambers of Commerce slashed its forecast for the UK economy due to the tax and trade “double whammy” afflicting UK businesses. The business group now expects the UK economy to grow by just 0.9 per cent in 2025, a hefty downgrade on the 1.3 per cent growth it envisaged for the economy at the turn of the year.

US stops sharing intelligence with Kyiv to pile pressure on Zelenskyy The Guardian describes the decision to halt intelligence-sharing as “another serious blow” to Kyiv, following US President Donald Trump’s earlier move to suspend military aid. The paper notes that both bans could be lifted if peace talks advance. The front page also reports on the conviction of serial rapist Zhenhao Zou at a London court. The 28-year-old PhD student was found guilty of drugging and raping at least 10 women and police say there could be dozens more. 

Mafia cop killer free to roam UK The Sun reports on Maksim Cela, 59, the ‘terrorist cop killer’ who is free to roam Britain’s streets. The paper says the Albanian has cost taxpayers tens of thousands of pounds fighting deportation. He claims he will be at risk from “rival mobsters” if he is sent home. There’s a dash of celebrity news on the sidebar this morning.

New two-tier justice fiasco The Daily Mail also reports on the planned changes, describing it as a “two-tier justice fiasco.” The paper says the Tories believe it could open a softer sentence for minority groups and risks making the courts “anti-white and anti-Christian.” The sentencing of a serial rapist – also the son of Chinese Communist Party – makes the front page as the paper says he’s one of the UK’s most ‘prolific’ rapists.

Fulfil La Promesse! The Daily Express says the calls are mounting for the French to “turn Channel boats around”, saying migrants were escorted to a British rescue ship from French waters. The paper says the French aren’t doing their part in keeping the migrants safe. The paper calls it the latest in the ‘migration farce.’
