Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 7 of Andor.
Last week’s mission to rob an Imperial garrison might have (mostly) been a success… but Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is far from in the clear, as enemies circle from all directions.
In episode 7 of Star Wars series Andor on Disney Plus, the aftermath of the Aldhani heist is reverberating around the galaxy, impacting the lives of people including Cassian’s adoptive mother Maarva (Fiona Shaw), the mission’s leader Vel (Faye Marsay), Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), who put Cassian up to the job in the first place.
By the end, Cassian is going by another alias while evading the authorities – but unfortunately crosses paths with a droid who bears a strong resemblance to a fan-favourite character from the 2016 anthology movie Rogue One, much to many viewers’ excitement.
The protagonist is in dire straits by the end of the instalment, while mentions of the dreaded villain Palpatine – who was Darth Vader’s master – send shivers down the spine.
Cassian returns to Maarva and Bix on Ferrix after heist
Having earned the credits he was promised by Luthen for the role he played in the heist, Cassian returns to Ferrix in a bid to encourage his adoptive mother Maarva (Fiona Shaw) and friend Bix (Adria Arjona) to flee with him to enjoy his new riches.
However, both decline, with Maarva revealing to Cassian that the heist in Aldhani (which she doesn’t know he was involved in) inspired her to take up arms in the rebellion in a heartbreaking interaction between the pair.
Bix – whose lover Timm sold out Cassian before being killed – also turns him down, revealing that the whole town blames him for what occurred and the danger that followed him to their homes.
Nonetheless, we have a feeling (or at least we desperately hope) this won’t be the last we see of Maarva and Bix before the rest of the 12-episode arc is released.
Mon Mothma and Luthen lock horns over Aldhani attack

Despite their alliance in the undercover rebellion, Mon Mothma and Luthen do not see eye to eye when it comes to the Aldhani heist to steal the quarterly payroll for an entire Imperial sector – a project that Mon Mothma wasn’t informed about.
Mon Mothma is worried that the blow to the Empire will trigger Palpatine and result in them making bigger moves against the rebellion, while Luthen admits that’s exactly what he wants to happen.

Having been warned by Luthen not to bring any more people in for help, Mon Mothma goes against this advice to covertly speak to an old friend, Tay Kolma (Ben Miles), at a party, subtly revealing to him that the public persona of Mon Mothma that she presents to the world is a purposeful facade.
Whether or not Tay Kolma can actually be trusted remains to be seen.
Vel could be coming for Cassian after target is placed on his back
Vel’s first mission might be other, but she now has another on her hands thanks to Kleya (Picture: Lucasfilm/Disney Plus)
Following the mission on Aldhani, Vel said a final farewell to Cassian, having fulfilled her role amid several fatalities along the way.
However, it appears her acquaintance with Cassian isn’t over yet, as Luthen’s gallery assistant Kleya (Elizabeth Dulau) demands that Vel take out the lead character for good to ensure they have no loose ends.
Of course, we know that Cassian doesn’t die at this point, as he goes on to appear in Rogue One, which is set five years in the future.
So could Vel end up becoming his ally once more, or will the pair come to blows?
Cassian has run-in with KX-series droid before meeting Rogue One’s K-2SO
Fans are desperate to see Rogue One’s K-2SO again (Picture: Lucasfilm/Disney Plus)
Having fleed Ferrix, by the end of the episode, Cassian is hiding out on Niamos, a beachy location in the galaxy where he’s going by the name Keef Girgo and staying with a mystery woman.
One day, he’s out walking when he witnesses a supposed criminal running away from the authorities – and in a case of wrong place, wrong time, a Shoretrooper grows suspicious of Cassian, ordering a KX-series droid to keep an eye on him.
The droid pins Cassian to the wall, before he’s sentenced to six years in jail – which of course, we know he won’t serve in its entirety, hinting that a prison break is on the way.
At the first sight of the KX droid, several fans immediately thought it could be K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), the reprogrammed Imperial droid who was Cassian’s companion in Rogue One and one of the most beloved characters of the movie.
However, before Andor came out, it was confirmed that K-2SO would not appear in the first season, with Diego previously saying: ‘If he knew K2 back then there would be no journey to go through.’
That is, unless saying K2 isn’t showing up is simply a red herring.
Given in the comic book, K-2SO strangles Cassian when they first meet – just like the KX-series droid does in the show – it may not be too far a stretch to think the cast and creators could be telling fibs.
Nonetheless, the appearance of the KX-series droid still sparked huge levels of excitement over (crossed fingers) K2 being in future seasons of Andor.
‘Why did I think this was gonna be our introduction to K-2SO,’ one disappointed fan tweeted, while another wrote: ‘Stupid KX unit making me sad about K-2SO.’
‘If Cassian manages to hack one of those security droids in prison and it turns out to be K2 I’ll be SO HAPPY, I’ve never expected that we could get him this early on and still am doubting it a bit, but if we do get him I call it a W,’ another hopeful person said.
Well, as we all know, rebellions are built on hope.
Andor is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
