America’s Got Talent winner Michael Grimm is improving after being rushed to hospital with a mystery health condition.
Earlier this year, the 44-year-old was taken to intensive care and placed on a ventilator while doctors got to the bottom of his issues.
In a new video posted on his Facebook page by his wife, Lucie, she shared some ‘positive updates’ after a tough few weeks.
She explained that spending time on the ventilator caused a ‘disconnect’ between the musician’s mind and body, meaning that he had to relearn his speech and movement.
‘He has been through a lot, it came on completely unexpectedly,’ she began. ‘I’m thrilled to say that his speaking voice is completely back and he’s in full speaking voice. The speech therapy portion of it has been very successful.
‘They are starting on vocal exercises. He doesn’t have a singing voice yet … He is not stressed over it. He feels that with proper vocal exercises and retraining he will get back on track.

‘He has got his mobility back, so he is no longer walking with a walker or cane. He is walking on his own and that’s a huge thing for us.
‘Getting that leg strength back, and getting his coordination and equilibrium back – those are all massive things. That’s probably his biggest win right now.’
However, Lucie revealed that their health insurance didn’t come through in time to cover the costs, with bills passing the $200,000 mark.
Despite the illness, she shared that Michael is itching to get back on the stage and perform for fans.

‘Overall he seems to be in really good spirits. He is a little bit emotionally disconnected I guess but I think that is to be expected,’ she added.
‘He is suffering from a little bit of PTSD from being on the ventilator, I’m told that’s pretty common.
‘He is very motivated. He is anxious to get back on stage, that is something he is missing. He’s focusing on whatever he can to make a full recovery quickly.’
Michael had been complaining of a lack of energy for some time before he was taken in for treatment, but medical professionals ‘still couldn’t figure out what was going on with him’.
In a previous video, Lucie explained that Michael could ‘barely walk’ on May 29, and struggled to ‘lift his head’, so they took him to the emergency room.
The songwriter ‘started talking gibberish’ while in the facility, before exhibiting physical tremors as his blood pressure ‘skyrocketed’.
‘For the safety of his health, they had to put him on a ventilator and sedate him pretty heavily so that he wouldn’t stroke out,’ she added at the time. ‘So that he wouldn’t flatline.’
