Daily Mirror – Al Fayed rape scandal: Shop of horrors

    September 20, 2024

The Daily Mirror reports at least 100 women are feared to have been sexually abused by Mohamed Al Fayed, the former owner of Harrods who died last year.

The BBC investigation has seen 20 women come forward to allege they were assaulted by the late Harrods boss.

Mohamed Al Fayed ‘sexual abuse’ bombshells – from 100 feared victims to police ‘wiping evidence’

At least 100 women are feared to have been sexually abused by Mohamed Al Fayed.

Ex-staff at the late tycoon’s luxury Harrods store, one then just 15, allege they were attacked across 24 years. Five accuse him of rape.

But a new BBC documentary claims Al Fayed deployed an army of aides to silence his alleged victims and used his power and wealth to evade justice.

More than 20 former workers have accused Al Fayed, whose son Dodi was killed in a car crash alongside girlfriend Princess Diana, of sex abuse. He allegedly deployed Harrods staff, a former senior Met Police officer, lawyers and PR agents to threaten his victims who he spied on using hidden cameras and bugging equipment.

One woman claims Al Fayed’s sexual abuse was well known about during his time in charge of Harrods from 1986 to 2010 when he sold it. She said: “We all watched each other walk through that door thinking, ‘You poor girl, it’s you today’ and feeling powerless to stop it.”

Exclusive: Zoe Ball pictured for first time since BBC Radio 2 absence as DJ seen with Fatboy Slim

Radio presenter Zoe Ball has been seen for the first time since she has been absent from her BBC Radio 2 show.

The star, who has puzzled listeners by being off the show for six weeks, was seen laughing and smiling alongside her ex-husband, 61. The Radio 2 presenter was spotted with a group of people – including Norman Cook – outside a cafe in Hove, on Sunday. Eyewitnesses say the broadcaster stayed there for just over an hour.

Photos show her chatting and laughing with the group before walking along the beachfront.

Zoe, 53, last appeared on her breakfast programme on August 8. Her show has been covered with replacements including Scott Mills and Gaby Roslin. There is speculation that Zoe will return to her breakfast show next Monday.

Schedules published by the BBC show her in that slot, with her temporary replacement Scott Mills returning to his afternoon slot. A BBC Radio 2 spokeswoman would only say: “Zoe will return to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show later this month”

But the show’s blurb says: “Wake up and embrace the day with Zoe Ball and the team. Zoe keeps the tunes rolling on Maximum Music Monday.”

‘Middle East closer to regional war’ & ‘Mohamed Al Fayed accused of rape’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 20 September 2024.

For a third day, the latest developments in the Middle East find a prominent place on the UK front pages. Many of the papers report the latest strike is taking the region a step closer to an ‘all-out war.’

A BBC investigation into Mohammed Al Fayed – the former owner of Harrods – makes several of the front pages. The papers report the BBC’s investigation found more than 20 female ex-employees say Mr Al Fayed sexually assaulted or raped them.

Friday’s papers also feature a dash of domestic politics as the Tory leadership race heats up and speculation over the upcoming Budget continues to cause fear and worry.
