Aaron Ramsdale’s dad celebrates Bournemouth’s shock win over Arsenal

Aaron Ramsdale’s dad has expressed his delight at AFC Bournemouth’s shock 2-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

The Cherries stunned the Premier League title challengers thanks to goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert after William Saliba was shown an early red card.

With Liverpool and Manchester City both picking up three points on Sunday, Arsenal’s defeat on the south coast could be a costly result for their trophy hopes.

No one appeared to enjoy Bournemouth’s victory more than Ramsdale’s dad, Nick, who posted on X: ‘BACK OF THE NET BOSCOMBE!!!!!!!!’

The social media post from Ramsdale’s dad comes after he slammed Arsenal – and Mikel Arteta – over how his son was treated in north London before he was sold permanently to Southampton in the most recent summer transfer window.

‘We did not have a clue (Ramsdale was going to be dropped for David Raya),’ Ramsdale’s dad Nick told the Highbury Squad podcast in November last year.

‘I didn’t have a clue, our family didn’t have a clue, Aaron didn’t have a clue that he was not going to carry on playing.

What does ‘Back of the Net, Boscombe’ mean?

‘Back of the Net, Boscombe’ is a chant used by AFC Bournemouth fans. It references the club’s original name, Boscombe FC.

Boscombe is a suburb of Bournemouth. It is where the club’s current stadium is based.

‘Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off. And Aaron’s got to live with that, and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody. You’ve got to give the guy a chance, for God’s sake.

‘Squads evolve all the time, nobody is going to be there forever. The way it’s been done, in my eyes, it’s been wrong.

‘Aaron lost that smile. It really is difficult to see him there. My only problem is when I spoke to Mr Arteta on the phone before he signed Aaron, he said he wanted Aaron. But now David Raya is back on the market and he had David Raya.’

Ramsdale is held in high regard by Bournemouth fans for his three-year stint at the club from 2017 to 2020.

The 26-year-old was crowned AFC Bournemouth Supporters’ Player of the Year for the 2019-20 campaign.

Ramsdale left Bournemouth in 2020 for a second stint at Sheffield United, before he was signed by Arsenal the following year. He spent three years at the Emirates in total before he was sold to the Saints.
