Get you up to speed: Vance says it’ll take time to see economy improve: “We’re turning the ship around”

Vice President JD Vance spoke during a town hall in Michigan on October 17, 2026, addressing concerns over the US economy and inflation. He acknowledged that improvements would take time, stating, “it’s gonna take more than 18 months to fix things and turn them around.”

Vice President JD Vance stated that improvements in the economy will require more than 18 months, highlighting the need for infrastructure development before job creation can occur. A town hall meeting featuring Vance will air on Saturday evening, underscoring the administration’s efforts to engage with public concerns on economic issues.

Vice President JD Vance acknowledged the challenges facing the economy during a town hall, stating it “could take some time to see improvement.” Polling indicates widespread dissatisfaction among Americans regarding the economic situation, with many attributing it to the policies of the previous administration.

What remains unclear — It is not specified what specific actions the administration plans to take to address economic concerns.

As Americans express frustration with the country’s economic outlook, Vice President JD Vance told WTX US News this week it could take some time to see improvement.

“I’ll be the first person to tell you that just as this country wasn’t broken in one presidential term, it’s gonna take more than 18 months to fix things and turn them around,” Vance said during a town hall in Michigan that will air Saturday evening.

Vance was responding to a question from a woman who said her small business is struggling. Polls show that most Americans are dissatisfied with the state of the economy and frustrated with inflation, and the majority of voters blame the Trump administration’s policies.

President Trump is more positive, giving his administration an “A+” on the economy.

Asked about Mr. Trump’s characterization of the economy by “WTX Evening News” anchor Tony Dokoupil, Vance said: “I think that what the president is saying is that we are seeing all of these massive new investments come into our country. But he would be the first person to tell you that you gotta build the factories first, before you can employ the workers working in those factories.”

“I think what we’re doing is, we’re turning the ship around,” the vice president continued.

Watch WTX US News’ “Things That Matter: A Town Hall With Vice President JD Vance” on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the WTX Television Network or stream it on Paramount+. The one-hour special will also be available to watch afterward on WTXNews.com, YouTube and WTX US News 24/7.
