Breaking – China announces retaliatory action as Trump tariffs take effect
China has responded with retaliatory measures following the implementation of tariffs by US President Donald Trump. The Chinese tariffs specifically target US imports such as coal, large-engine vehicles, and liquefied natural gas. Additionally, Beijing’s anti-monopoly regulator has initiated an investigation into Google.
The 10% tariffs imposed by Trump on Chinese goods have now taken effect, while the proposed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico have been temporarily delayed for one month. During his election campaign, Trump had threatened to impose 60% tariffs on China, citing the flow of fentanyl into the US as a key reason. However, even the current lower tariff rate could significantly impact America’s third-largest trading partner, which continues to face tariffs from Trump’s first term.
China, already grappling with sluggish economic growth, has increasingly relied on exports to sustain its economy. The new tariffs could further strain its economic challenges.
