Interview with botanist Lorenzo Peruzzi: “Asphalt prevents water from penetrating the ground and excavations cut the roots, which weaken them”.

We place them next to the streets as if they were street lamps. They act as a silent backdrop to our cities. “But trees are living beings. Too often we don’t think about them, forcing them to live in unsuitable environments.” Lorenzo Peruzzi teaches botany at the University of Pisa, is the director of the city’s botanical garden, and directs the Italian Society of Biogeography.
