Wisconsin played a pivotal role in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, with the winning candidate edging out victory by just over 20,000 votes each time.
In close races like this, third-party candidates could significantly influence the outcome. Polls suggest that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. could potentially draw votes away from either Harris or Trump. Meanwhile, Democrats are working to remove Green Party candidate Jill Stein from the Wisconsin ballot, citing non-compliance with election laws. They’ve also filed a complaint against Cornel West, a progressive academic running as an independent.
‘If we win Wisconsin, we win the whole thing’
Trump has called Wisconsin a “really important” state, saying, “if we win Wisconsin, we win the whole thing.” The state’s significance was further emphasised when the Republican National Convention was held in Milwaukee this summer.
Harris, too, made her presence felt in the state, rallying in Milwaukee when the Democratic convention formally nominated her via live stream as their presidential candidate.
