    Texas braces for Hurricane Beryl

Texas is preparing for Hurricane Beryl, which has strengthened again and is expected to bring destructive winds, storm surges, and heavy rain when it makes landfall early Monday. The National Hurricane Center has issued warnings for winds up to 110 mph and rainfall up to 10 inches, prompting the closure of major ports and widespread power outage alerts.

Beryl, which previously caused at least 10 deaths in the Caribbean and was downgraded to a tropical storm in Mexico, is set to hit between Galveston and Corpus Christi. Over a million Texans are under a hurricane warning, and authorities have urged residents to seek safe shelter and be prepared for hazardous conditions, including flash flooding and power outages reaching as far inland as Houston.

Acting Governor Dan Patrick has emphasised the severity of the storm, and mandatory evacuations have been ordered for certain areas, including Refugio County and Nueces County. More than 2,000 emergency responders, including the Texas National Guard, are ready to assist after the storm.

This storm marks an unusual event for Texas in July and follows Beryl’s record as the earliest Category Five hurricane. The storm has already caused significant damage across the Caribbean and Mexico, with power outages and homes destroyed. Experts link Beryl’s power to exceptionally high sea surface temperatures and warn of potentially more severe storms this season.
