A man ended up with 200 portions of bangers and mash at his pub table after playing the Wetherspoon drinking game.

Chris Illman, 42, has donated all the food to the homeless after playing the game which involves people drinking in Spoons posting their location and table number into a Facebook group.

People from the group use the pub’s app to send items to strangers who only realise when they turn up at the table.

Chris is the game’s founder and decided to play when he was at The Bright Helm, Brighton.

But members of the Facebook group did not stop there and also ordered four bin bags of crisps and peanuts to the table worth £3,000.

While the stunt was planned, Chris was shocked to find out how many people had taken part.

He said: ‘I was emotional seeing the success of the appeal.

‘Being able to feed the homeless was so touching.

‘I couldn’t believe how quickly we sold out of the food.

‘200 meals doesn’t scratch the surface but raising awareness to the group and the nation has been really positive.

‘We had arranged it all with the manager and set ourselves up on a table, which was the table number we told the group to order to.

‘When the meals sold out, we asked for snacks and the staff filled out four bin liners with packets of peanuts and crisps.

‘We got inundated with orders and it was so fun,’ he said.
