More than £130,000 has been raised to buy a pint – or several thousand – for the Deliveroo driver who heroically intervened during a stabbing in Dublin.

Riots erupted in the Irish capital last night after a knifeman injured three children and two adults in a terrifying attack outside Coláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square.

Brazillian driver Caio Benicio was on his motorbike when he saw the manattacking the group on Thursday afternoon.

Follow the latest on the Dublin stabbings and riots on our live blog.

He lept off his bike and clobbered the attacker with his helmet to try and save their lives.

Now a fundraiser has raised more than €156,000 to buy Caio a pint as a way of saying thanks.

The fundraising page, set up by Paul Darcy, states: ‘The man’s a hero and the least we can do is buy him a pint so I’m asking you to donate the price of a pint of Guinness in your local to Caio so that he knows the people of Dublin appreciate him.’

Caio was on his motorbike working in Dublin city centre on Thursday when he saw what he first thought was a fight.

‘I slowed down my motorcycle to see what’s going on. I realised some man and woman and a little girl (were) involved,’ he told reporters near the scene.

‘Later on I found out (the woman) was the teacher. She was very, very brave.’

Mr Benicio said saw the man grab a girl, take out a knife and attack her, adding: ‘When I saw the knife, I stopped my bike and I just acted by instinct.’

He said he took his helmet off and hit the man in the head with it ‘with all of my power’.

‘I didn’t even know there was more kids that were (hurt) at that time,’ he said.

‘I thought it was just one girl but afterwards I (found) out there are more people, more kids.’

Caio added: ‘I wish the family all the best. I pray for her to survive.

‘I’m a parent myself, I have two kids and I know how hard it is.

‘I saw (parents) come to the school, desperate to see how their kids are, something you can’t even imagine, the pain. I wish them all the strength possible to carry on.’
