Timothée Chalamet has landed himself in a bit of hot water after sparking outrage following a ‘disgusting’ Hamas joke on Saturday Night Live.

The American-French actor, 27, appeared in the latest episode of the long-running sketch comedy show, and it appears that one sketch in particular didn’t go down well with viewers at home on Saturday, who called it ‘distasteful’ and ‘out of touch’.

In the scene, the Wonka star plays a character named Frank, who is a failing and depressed musician, standing on the ledge of a building and threatening to jump.

He then attempts to ensure that three passers-by share his music on Instagram, promising not to jump from the ledge if they do so – but then Frank hits a snag.

Frank’s music is made under the name ‘Hamas’ (pronounced Hay-mas) – the three passers-by refuse to share music made by Hamas on their Instagram pages.

At the end of the sketch, Frank then realises that the three passers-by are the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy, and subsequently jumps.

It was a joke that probably came a little soon (Picture: NBC)

With the devastating war in Gaza continuing, with over 10,000 people having lost their lives in the conflict, the sketch has been poorly received on social media.
