Dua Lipa surprised fans with an in-person appearance at an event celebrating the release of her new single (Picture: Ben Gibson)
Dua Lipa fans were given the ultimate surprise as the One Kiss star herself appeared at a fan event in London.
The chart-topper is preparing to release her third album following the mega success of 2020’s Future Nostalgia, and her first single – Houdini – was the first offering from the upcoming record.
Released on Thursday, Houdini is already proving a hit, and gave the star her biggest-ever Spotify and YouTube debut, garnering over 13 million hits on the website within 24 hours.
A handful of lucky fans were the first to see the music video for Houdini as they were given tickets to a special fan event held in London’s English National Ballet building in Canning Town.
But there were other surprises in store, as the 28-year-old shocked attendees by showing up and saying a few words.
As fans – very understandably – lost their minds, the icon introduced the song and video, and as it was played on the big screen, they realised they were in the very room the video was shot.

With her newly-dyed red hair tied up in a knot, Dua looked ready to party in a sparkling white tank top, and to enormous cheers as she took to the stage, asked if everyone was having a good time so far.
‘This is still so surreal. My heart is racing I’m so excited, I can’t believe I’m finally here again.
‘We’re going to do the first play on earth for you guys. You’ll get to see the video and hear the song before everyone else. Are you guys ready?’

Spoiler alert – they were.
The catchy new song sees the singer tell a love interest to ‘catch me or I go/ Houdini/ I come and I go/ prove you got the right to please me.’
In the music video, she dances in an empty rehearsal room with her reflection, creating an optical illusion under fluorescent lights.
Last week saw The Beatles clinch their first number one hit in an incredible 54 years with the release of Now And Then, which features the voice of the late John Lennon.
Dua’s track could see the legendary band’s time on the top coming to an end however as Houdini quickly becomes everyone’s new favourite earworm.
