Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Manchester United if his struggling side fails to be Luton Town at Old Trafford on Saturday, according to Alan Brazil.

The Dutchman has presided over a miserable start to the campaign which culminated in Wednesday night’s catastrophic Champions League defeat against FC Copenhagen.

Already way off the pace in the Premier League, United’s European ambitions are now hanging by a thread after a late collapse against the unfancied Danish side.

A home fixture against Luton should offer Ten Hag the chance to create some breathing space ahead of another international break, but anything other than three points will spell the end of his reign, according to Brazil.

‘Manchester United have to beat Luton, if they don’t Ten Hag is gone,’ the talkSPORT host and former Manchester United striker said. ‘He’s a goner.

‘He won’t go from what I hear before December. But after December 1 he’s in big danger. I don’t think it’s going to happen until after December so I’m talking about financial (reasons).

‘I’ve nothing against Ten Hag but I honestly believe they’re not playing for him and I think he’s lost the dressing room. I’m sure he’s lost it.’

Despite Brazil’s claims, striker Rasmus Hojlund remains adamant the former Ajax coach retains the support of the players who have underperformed this season.

Speaking after Wednesday’s defeat, he said: ‘A really good coach. He cares about every single detail and he helps me a lot, gives me a lot of confidence and supports me.

‘I think every player in the dressing room supports him. I hope it is just a matter of time [before United will be successful].

‘The first 30 minutes today was some of the best football we have been playing this season.’
