Eddie Howe says he has ‘absolutely not’ spoken to the Arsenal boss since full-time (Picture: Getty)
Eddie Howe has shared his thoughts on Anthony Gordon’s controversial winner as Newcastle United defeated Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was left absolutely furious at the decision to award the goal, describing it as a ‘disgrace’ and ’embarrassing’ in a meltdown over VAR.
VAR officials took over four minutes to make the decision, running checks on three possible offences.
Those included if Newcastle star Gordon was offside, if the ball had gone out of play during the build-up and if Gabriel Magalhaes was fouled by Joelinton.
Asked for his thoughts on Newcastle’s winner, Magpies boss Howe told Sky Sports: ‘We’re in the dark, we’re stood by the side of the pitch seeing VAR on the screen but with no pictures.
‘I haven’t seen anything other than what I saw at the time. It looked a good goal to me.’
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Howe added: ‘Maybe [Mikel Arteta] has seen something I haven’t.

‘I’ve only seen it live and from my angle I had no idea what was going on. I had on idea what was going on with the VAR checks either.
‘With every check that was happening, I was thinking they were going to find something wrong with it. Very bizarre to have three checks. But the goal was given and that’s all I know.’
Quizzed by a reporter if he had spoken to Arteta since the full-time whistle, Howe said: ‘Absolutely not. I’ve been speaking to you guys.’
