‘He will be back on track’ – Erik ten Hag issues defiant response to Marcus Rashford criticism

Erik ten Hag is convinced Marcus Rashford will be ‘back on track’ soon following the Manchester United star’s poor start to the season.

Rashford hit 30 goals during a spectacular 2022-23 season but his performances have taken a dramatic dip this term.

The England international has just one goal and three assist to his name in 14 appearances with United in desperate need of some inspiration in attack, standing as the lowest goal scorers among the top 12 sides in the league.

Rashford is not the only player struggling for form with United enduring a miserable run that has heaped pressure on Erik ten Hag.

After heavy back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle United, a trip to Fulham beckons on Saturday.

While Rashford’s performances in games have been a concern, ten Hag says he has seen enough on the training ground to give him confidence a turnaround is coming.

‘I am sure that he will be back on track,’ ten Hag told MUTV.

‘I see him in training performing so well so I think that before long, he will be back on track. He will make a lot of goals for us and he will be so very important for us.

‘Once we find our rhythm, once the team finds its rhythm, it is also easier for him.’

This week, there have been reports of further unrest in the dressing room with United forced to deny reports there are lining up possible replacements for ten Hag should form not improve quickly.

After their trip to Craven Cottage, United head to Copenhagen in desperate need of a win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive.

‘They want to put this right,’ ten Hag said in a press conference on Friday.

‘We know the standards here and we have to make those standards every day. We will fight back. The players are strong, the coaches are strong and the manager is strong.’
