Muslim dating site being sued AGAIN by industry giant

Muzz is a Muslim dating site being sued AGAIN by a corporate bully. Mr. Younas is a former investment banker who started Muzz in 2011 with the aim of helping single Muslims find spouses online in ways that were compatible with Islamic values.

The company is now being sued by Match Group for a third time. It is a form of corporate assassination, When the bigger companies can’t simply swallow you up, they will instead employ nefarious techniques to force you into submission.

Tying up the firm in litigation is one of those nefarious techniques. It doesn’t matter if you win, by the time the big shark has finished with you, you’ll be so tied up in legal bills and debt that you’ll have no choice but to sell, for pennies on the dollar or simply roll over and die.

    Protect British businesses

Legal changes need to be made to protect British businesses from American vultures. It has been happening to businesses for years, and more recently football clubs have become a target for American firms when Gillette and Hicks held Liverpool ransom of bankruptcy using similar nefarious methods.

The American conglomerate Match Group sued the company over its original name – Muzmatch, saying the company was infringing on its trademarked logo, using “match” in its name, and “unfairly benefiting” from the company’s reputation and investment in its brand.

The mobile app was introduced in 2015 and the service is often listed among the leading dating apps for Muslims and has attracted over £7 million in financing.

Match Group is a US company with reportedly more than $2 billion in revenue last year and millions of paying customers.

The dispute between the dating companies goes back to 2016 when Match Group objected to the start-up’s registration for “Muzmatch” in Europe and the United States. Match also objected to the use of a heart and the font in Muzmatch’s logo at the time, which were eventually removed.

Despite this, Muzz has continued to grow in popularity, and as explained by Mr. Younas on TikTok, Match Group has attempted to buy the company – in 2019 they offered up to $35 million.

He said he didn’t sell the company to Match because it means too much to him and he doesn’t want a ‘random’ company controlling how Muslims date, saying it’s too important ‘to our community.’

Younas goes on to say that after Match Group failed to buy his company they went on to buy Hawaya – which they recently shut down.

‘Trying to bury Muzz in legal fees’

As Match Group couldn’t buy Muzz, they’ve instead decided to sue the company both in the UK and the US.

Younas said Muzz has spent well over a million dollars in legal fees, and whilst Match Group can afford to throw money around in the courts, Muzz cannot.

The company settled the US case and dropped the ‘swipe gesture’ as that is apparently owned by Match Group.

After they lost the UK case, where they had to give up their original name and drop other features, they filed an application to appeal the hearing which was granted on two grounds.

Recently, Muzz had its appeal hearing in court and the day after that, Match Group decided to sue the company for a third time.

Match Group are suing in the US over how the apps match people together.

Mr Younas says the reason Match Group are suing again is because he wouldn’t sell Muzz to them and the American company wants to dominate the entire online dating market. He says because they wouldn’t sell, the company is attempting to bury them in legal fees and calls for The Federal Trade Commission to look at the monopoly Match Group has over the online dating world.

He says Muzz won’t be bullied or bought by Match Group and the company will fight to the very end.
