The Office’s Rainn Wilson accuses The Last of Us of ‘anti-Christian bias’ over cannibal pastor

The Office US star Rainn Wilson has suggested The Last of Us is another example of ‘anti-Christian bias in Hollywood’.

The video game adaptation has been widely hailed as one of the greatest TV shows in recent memory, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay surviving in a post-apocalyptic world plagued by a deadly fungus that turns people into monsters called clickers.

In the penultimate episode of season one, which concluded this week, a new cannibalistic pastor, David (Scott Shepherd) was introduced.

After watching the episode, Wilson, who starred as Dwight Schrute in The Office US, tweeted: ‘I do think there is an anti-Christian bias in Hollywood. As soon as the David character in The Last of Us started reading from the Bible I knew that he was going to be a horrific villain.

‘Could there be a Bible-reading preacher on a show who is actually loving and kind?’

When his tweet sparked a debate among fans over the perception of Christians in Hollywood it was subsequently covered by Fox News.

Wilson stressed he’s ‘not even Christian’ and called out the broadcaster for picking up his opinion as ‘front page news’.

‘Talk about bias,’ he wrote. ‘An organization created as a corporate shill to create division solely for profit based on culture-war outrage. Print that!’

He went on: ‘Of course it’s true that the evangelical/political coalition is doing a great deal of damage to our country. Banning books – banning freedoms – denying inconvenient science, taking a grotesque anti-LGBTQ+ platform…

‘But most Christians that I know are kind, accepting and loving and seeking to make the world a better place. They should also be honoured in the media.’

The Last of Us has been praised for its inclusivity and masterful LGBTQ+ storytelling, particularly following the third episode featuring Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett).

The Last of Us is available to stream on NOW.
