The Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has said his chemotherapy treatment for cancer has affected his ability to walk.

The TV chef revealed he had been diagnosed with the disease last year, joking that he will be a ‘baldy biker’ for the time being.

Sharing an update on his health in January, he noted that his treatment was ‘ongoing’ and was ‘kinda doing alright’ as he learns to live with cancer.

On Friday, the 65-year-old has elaborated further on the side effects of chemotherapy, saying it ‘doesn’t age you half quickly.’

Discussing the treatment, he said: ‘By God, the chemotherapy doesn’t half age you quickly. Because your balance goes, so for someone with a motorbike that’s a disaster, and my walking has been affected quite a lot, really.’

Dave told Kaye Adams on her How To Be 60 podcast that while he had ‘no symptoms’ of cancer, he had been struggling with the after-effects of the drug, which has left him struggling to stand.

‘So I’ve had to learn to walk again properly,’ he explained.

He also said: ‘It’s a funny thing, chemotherapy, it’s one of life’s great levelers. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the telly or on the dole, if you get that then you’re in the s***.’

The television presenter went on to say he had been suffering from depression because of the chemo.

He explained: ‘Sometimes the chemo does make you depressed.

‘It’s a type of chemical depression, and that’s really hard, because everyone is telling you to be positive, but when the chemistry in your body is not telling you that story, that’s harsh.’

Dave confirmed that he would return to filming this May ‘around chemo’, as he added he was ‘grateful’ the cancer wasn’t spreading.

Dave has previously spoken about health struggles, including discovering he had glaucoma – an eye condition that can lead to blindness.

In 2018, he revealed he had originally dismissed the condition as a bad hangover.

His fellow Hairy Biker Si King has also spoken openly about suffering from a brain aneurysm in 2014, which he later said he was only able to survive due to considerable weight loss.

After meeting in 1995, Dave and Si gained popularity as the Hairy Bikers, with Dave appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.
