Dan Walker has said he will be making his Channel 5 comeback shortly after recovering from a serious bike crash.
The former BBC Breakfast presenter was hit by a car while commuting to work on a bike last week and was left with a bruise and bloodied face.
Following the terrifying incident, the 45-year-old said he was ‘glad to be alive’, though said he could not remember any other details about what happened.
While Walker was seen hosting his first event since being nearly killed on Wednesday, the Royal Television Society Awards, he has been absent from his anchor gig.
However, that is about to change as Walker, on Thursday’s episode of Jeremy Vine, confirmed he would be making his on-screen 5 News hosting comeback very shortly.
Speaking to Vine about the accident, Walker said he was ‘very thankful to be here’ before continuing: ‘And to be getting back to be doing the job that I love. I’ll be going back on telly later today.’

During the interview, Walker remarked on how quickly his bruises had healed, joking: ‘My kids thank I am like Wolverine.’
He also revealed he was informed by police that five kind-hearted members of the public sat and waited with him for 25 minutes until the ambulance arrived, though he said he had ‘0 memory’ of them.
Walker has said previously he is ‘confident’ that he was not to blame for the incident but could not go into details due to an ongoing police investigation.

He wrote in The Times newspaper: ‘I know I could have died but I also know how easy it is to make a mistake, even when you’re trying to be careful.
‘I can’t really remember what they (the driver) looked like, from that moment they were looking over me as I came round, but I do recall that they looked deeply distressed and I imagine it is all they are thinking about at the moment.’
He also thanked the police, NHS and ambulance services, friends and family and members of the public who helped him following the crash, adding that hated ‘doing nothing’ while in recovery.

Walker credited the bike helmet that he was wearing for ‘saving his life’, keen to shut down trolls who tried to lecture him otherwise.

‘It’s odd to get lectured by people telling me that bike helmets aren’t important when the emergency services at the scene yesterday told me I probably wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t wearing one’, he said earlier this week after returning home.
‘Funny old world!’, he declared.
