Brit Awards 2022 – Adele is back! What to expect ahead of tonight’s show
Brit icon Adele will be at the Brit Awards 2022 – six years after she scooped an armful of awards. The music superstar will be up against the likes of Ed Sheeran, Dave and Little Simz for the top prizes.
The Brits, for the first time, have ditched the male and female categories, seeing music’s biggest and brightest competing against each other.
The awards will be hosted by Mo Gilligan this year, who has promised all four artists who are tied with their nominations (four apiece) will be delivering stand out performances – the award this year promising “big performances are back.”
“What’s going to be nice, especially for the fans, it’s going to be their first major event [during the pandemic] and I guess for a lot of people restoring levels of normality,” the comedian told Sky News.
“Like, ‘Oh wow, big performances are back’. And seeing Adele back on home soil and all these other great acts is going to bring a lot of joy to a lot of people.”
Brit Awards 2022 – the new category
Adele, Dave, Ed Sheeran and Little Simz will be battling it out for the biggest (and new) prize of the night – the artist of the year award.
Adele’s fourth album – 30 – is the best selling album of 2021, but the pop album is up against political Dave – many are asking will it be pop or politics that reigns supreme at this year’s awards.
Dave was the big Brit winner of 2020 and is back with his critically acclaimed album We’re All Along In This Together – a social critique on issues such as race and immigration.

Best rock/alternative act, best dance act and best hip-hop/grime/rap act have also been added to the ceremony, replacing the best male and best female categories so that non-binary artists such as Sam Smith aren’t excluded.
The Brits have seen falling viewership on TV over the years and in the hope to attract younger demographic, Tiktok users are encouraged to vote for the genre category.
