Italy flooding: Dozens rescued amid landslides and heavy rain
More than 60 people have been reduced after towns around the popular tourist spot Lake Como were hit with mudslides and floods.
Firefighters have been battling with debris to save dozens trapped in their homes as storms battered the famous lake.
No deaths or injuries were reported.
A landslide trapped at least 50 residents after it caused a gas leak in the town of Brienno, located on the lake’s western shore.
In Cernobbio, an apartment building was evacuated after fears of flooding.
Agricultural lobby group Coldiretti claim extreme weather has intensified in recent years, citing more frequent, sudden and violent storms, as well as short and intense rainfall and rapid changes from sunny skies to storms.
“We are facing in Italy the consequences of climate change, with a trend toward tropicalisation and the multiplication of extreme events,” the group said.
The group estimates £12bn in damages over the last decade/
The weather in Lake Como comes just one day after hailstones the size of tennis balls damaged cars and disrupted traffic on a major road near Bologna in northern Italy.
