The paper splits its front page with a haunting description of the Russian occupation of the town of Izium in Ukraine, which was recaptured by Ukrainian forces last weekend.

The Prince and Princess of Wales appear on the front of the Daily Mirror, alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The paper reports on Prince William and Prince Harry taking part in the procession route – walking side by side on Wednesday.

The Daily Express leads with an image of the Queen lying in state, with mourners filing past. The paper highlights the scale and grandeur of the occasion, with the Queen’s coffin towards the bottom of an image that includes the magnificent hammer-beam roof of Westminster Hall.

“We share your pain”, reads the front page of The Sun, in a heartfelt message to the Royal Family as they join the rest of the nation in saying goodbye to the Queen.

All of Thursday’s newspapers focus on the start of the Queen’s four days lying in state.
