The ridiculous $1.4k luxury telephone cord necklace
Luxury Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta is facing backlash and ridicule online for its latest product – which has some calling it a ‘scam’.
The brand is selling a £1,425 plastic telephone cord necklace — earning the title because it looks like a ‘home phone chord’.
They are being mocked online by people saying the necklace is ‘overpriced’ and slamming the matching earrings that cost £845 and a matching ring for £335.
The chord pieces are available in purple and green – but shoppers don’t seem keen.
The Milan-based luxury company says its enamel jewellery ‘mimics the sculptural character of traditional Venetian glasswork, specifically the island of Murano’s world-renowned chandeliers.’
A description on Net-a-Porter goes on: ‘It’s been crafted in Italy from enamelled silver and elegantly coiled.
‘Wear yours with other artful pieces from the brand’s collection.’
Plainer earrings are a ridiculous £550, while shoppers can find similar pieces on eBay sell for £3.50.
The jewellery set was shared online by Instagram account Diet Prada, with fashion fans quickly commenting on how ‘overpriced’ the pieces are while comparing them to their ‘grandma’s landline’.
Who the hell is gonna buy this, gen-Zers who have never experienced a landline?’
‘They are really just reaching into the junk drawer eyes closed and slapping 2k on whatever comes out’, said another user.
A third joked: ‘Yooooooooooo! Who knew I could sell my old landline cords for $2Gs’, while another agreed: ‘Grandma called. She wants her phone cord back!’.
