Netflix has released a new Swedish horror, The Conference, right in time for Halloween and it’s gory scenes have left viewers breathless while attracting an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score.
Starring Katia Winter, Adam Lundgren and Eva Melander, the horror follows a group of public sector employees who gather at a team-building conference but are thrust into a nightmare when accusations of corruption begin to circulate around the company.
However, that’s not the worst of their bad luck as a mysterious figure begins murdering them one by one, forcing them to fight for survival.
The storyline may seem familiar to some as it’s based on the book Konferensen written by Mats Strandberg.
Since it hit Netflix earlier this month, The Conference has been praised for its gruesome level of blood and violence, making it the perfect slasher for the spooky season. It’s also landed a healthy score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reacting to the streamer’s latest hit, one tweeted: ‘#TheConference was a crazy horror comedy slasher film so brutal one of the best i seen this year solid performances.’
Sharing their review, another wrote: ‘#TheConference on Netflix was a violent and amusing dunk on capitalism, a fresh slasher that I wish had a tighter runtime and a meaner script, but still made me laugh out loud more than once. plus some of the transitions are *chef’s kiss* and nadja is a queen!’
One horror fan cheered: ‘Bloody slasher meets hilarity in Netflix’s #TheConference. Brace yourself for a wild ride!’
Comparing it to the Ben Stiller thriller series Severance, one tweeted: ‘Now watching #TheConference on @NetflixUK… Hoping this Swedish office team building horror comedy can capture even half the fun of #Severance (which I love so much!).’
One declared ‘Sweden scores’ while another fan hailed the slasher as ‘loads of gory fun’ and one said it’s a ‘suspense-filled thriller that’ll leave you breathless.’
The Conference stars actress Winter as employee Lina who has just returned from a mental health break, Melander as grumpy co-worker Eva, Maria Sid as their manager who is all about toxic positivity and Lundgren as her right-hand man Jonas.

The horror follows a string of Netflix hits recently with viewers also heaping praise on British thriller Accused and creepy murder mystery Reptile, while Evil Dead Rise, Saw and Insidious are among the other releases to hit the streamer in time for Halloween.
Critically acclaimed horror Talk To Me will also arrive this month not long after its successful run in cinemas.
Viewers might want to enjoy The Conference soon before Netflix introduces its latest price hikes – its basic, ad-free subscription will rise from £6.99 a month to £7.99, while its premium subscription will jump from £15.99 to £17.99.
The Conference is available to stream on Netflix now.
