Cliff Notes – You can now binge all 6 episodes of ‘suspenseful’ murder mystery for free

    • Premise: “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue” follows the aftermath of a plane crash in Mexico, where nine bodies are discovered, but ten passports are found, hinting at a deeper mystery.

    • Suspenseful Narrative: The series, created by Anthony Horowitz, features a mix of survival and murder mystery elements, with survivors being picked off one by one by an unknown assailant.

    • Streaming Availability: All six episodes are currently available for streaming on BBC iPlayer, inviting viewers to engage with the unfolding mystery.

Did you ever catch Sheridan Smith’s bonkers plane crash thriller The Castaways last Boxing Day? Well, I have good news regardless of what your answer is.

If yes, and you want another right rollicking good binge watch, you’re in luck. If no, can I interest you in a show billed as Agatha Christie meets Lost? (Surely nobody is going to say no to that.)

The new crime drama in question is Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue – can you already tell there’s death involved? Nine, in fact.

From the mind of Anthony Horowitz, the new BBC drama kicks off in Los Tríos, Mexico as the police are scratching their heads, because nine bodies have been recovered from a jungle plane crash, but a total of ten passports found. Hmm.

Flash back eight days (as TV is so want to do nowadays) and we see that plane crash unfold. For those fearful of flying, beware.

Pilot Octavio Fuentes is having a nightmare: he’s lost communication with the ground and is flying closer and closer to the Mexican jungle canopy, until the engines give out altogether.

Probably not one for those scared of flying (Picture: BBC/Eleventh Hour Films Limited 2025/Cristina Ríos Bordón)

Who looks the most suspicious? (Picture: BBC/Eleventh Hour Films Limited 2025/Cristina Ríos Bordón)

Before the plane rams into a line of trees, he has enough time to make an oh-so ominous phone call referring to those who don’t want him to live. Then the plane crashes.

Behind him, most of the cabin survives, with the exception of the lone cabin crew member, who dies on impact.

She’s the first of the nine bodies, which we’re reminded of with a fun on-screen graphic, as if it’s a Pokémon-style game to catch all nine.

You might have seen the next bit coming, but from here, we start picking off plane crash survivors one by one, dispatching them at the hands of an unknowable killer who may very well be one of the passengers.

All six episodes are streaming on iPlayer (Picture: BBC/Eleventh Hour Films Limited 2025/Cristina Ríos Bordón)

Billed by the Beeb as an ‘ingenious, suspenseful murder mystery’, the official synopsis teases: ‘They may have survived a plane crash – but will they survive the jungle?’

Given the flashforward at the start, it’s doubtful.

So who looks the most suspicious? Well, there’s Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack as an ex-doctor who doesn’t seem too stuffed about the pilot living or dying, or perhaps David Ajala’s incredibly dodgy insurance type.

Then there’s even a toss-up between Maga hunting enthusiast Travis (Olafur Darri Olafsson) or his Texan motel owner wife (Siobhán McSweeney).

You can take your best guess over on iPlayer, where all six episodes are waiting.

Does this show sound like one for you?
