In a shocking incident in Uptown, a 21-year-old woman was shot while walking her dog in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The incident took place on the 1300 block of West Sunnyside Avenue around 12:40 a.m. when a silver SUV pulled up and someone inside opened fire.

The victim was rushed to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in fair condition with gunshot wounds to her left leg. The quick response of emergency services likely saved her life, but the trauma of the incident will undoubtedly have a lasting impact.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and Area 3 detectives are actively investigating the case. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, leaving the community on edge and concerned for their safety.

This brazen act of violence has left residents in shock and disbelief, as Uptown is typically known as a peaceful neighborhood. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of gun violence in our city and the need for stronger measures to ensure the safety of all residents.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the police and help bring the perpetrators to justice. In the meantime, the victim and her loved ones are left to grapple with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.
