Woman arrested on flight to Detroit, accused of ‘anti-Muslim rhetoric’ and assault
Detroit Free Press says a Muslim civil rights organization is urging Wayne County authorities to bring hate-crime charges against a woman who the group says verbally berated an African-American Muslim woman on a Sept. 11 flight from Atlanta to Detroit, then hit her — and was arrested.
“We call for the suspect who allegedly spewed anti-Muslim rhetoric during the assault to be charged to the full extent of the law,” said Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). “Swift arrests along with strong prosecutions must be instituted to deter future acts of anti-Muslim hate crimes.”
