Naranaya, 76, is officially one of India’s richest men, with Forbes putting his net worth at a whopping $4.3 billion (around £3.1 billion).

Born and raised in Shidlaghatta, Karnataka, he graduated from the National Institute of Engineering, University of Mysore with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur.

He first worked as a research associate under a faculty at IIM Ahmedabad and then later as the chief systems programmer.

Mr Murthy went on to co-found IT company Infosys, in which Akshata reportedly holds a 0.91% stake in.

Naranaya has expressed his pride in his son-in-law becoming Prime Minister.

‘We are proud,’ Mr Murthy told the Asian News Agency. ‘We are confident he will do his best for the people of the United Kingdom.’

    Who is his mother-in-law?

Narayana’s wife, Sudha Murty, is chairperson of the Infosys Foundation as well as an educator, author, and philanthropist.

Mrs Murthy, 72, was born in Shiggaon, Haveri in Karnataka, India, the daughter of R. H. Kulkarni, a surgeon, and his wife Vimala Kulkarni, a school teacher. She was raised by her parents and maternal grandparents.

She completed a B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology, and then a M.Eng. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science.

Mrs Murthy went on to become the first female engineer at India’s largest auto manufacturer, TATA Engineering and Locomotive Company, before later joining the Walchand Group of Industries at Pune as Senior Systems Analyst.

She is also a Visiting Professor at the PG Center of Bangalore University.

Sudha met Narayana through a mutual friend, dating for four years before marrying in 1978.

Mrs Murthy told The Youth web portal a huge part of their healthy relationship was their love of books.

‘He always gifts me books and addressed ‘To the person I most admired.’ From me to you,’ she said.

    Who is his brother-in-law?

Mr Murthy and Mrs Murthy have two children – Akshata and Rohan Murthy.

Rohan, who is said to be aged around 38 to 39, studied at the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School in Bangalore for 12 years before moving to the US to complete an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Cornell University.

He then studied for his PhD in computer engineering at Harvard University, which he obtained in 2011.

He began his professional career in 2013 when he was appointed as an executive assistant at the Chairman’s Office reporting to his father at Infosys

Rohan is now a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows, founder of the Murty Classical Library of India, and founder and chief technical officer of the digital transformation company Soroco.

According to India Today, Rohan tied the knot with his partner, Aparna Krishnan, in a private ceremony in 2019.

A source told the publication: ‘As the marriage was a personal event, only family members and close relatives of the groom and the bride were present at the private ceremony… It was performed as per the Hindu customs in a traditional way.’

He was previously married to Lakshmi Venu, daughter of TVS Motors Chairman Venu Srinivasan, in June 2011, though the couple divorced in 2015.
