Which country has finished last the most at Eurovision (and no, it’s not the UK)

With the Eurovision Song Contest final hours away from kicking off in Liverpool, let’s look at those who have made Eurovision history for all the wrong reasons.

It may surprise you which country has the worst Eurovision track record – and no, it’s not the UK, don’t worry.

All eyes will be on 25-year-old Mae Muller tonight as she battles it out for the UK with her catchy pop tune I Wrote A Song.

This comes after Sam Ryder won the UK second place with his epic song Space Man in last year’s contest.

He came second only to Ukraine, who we have taken over hosting duties from this year given the current war.

Tonight is said to be heavy with tributes to the reigning champions, and the epic show will be hosted by Britain’s Got Talent star Alesha Dixon, Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina, and Ted Lasso actor Hannah Waddingham.

Of course, Graham Norton will be taking up his usual position in the commentary box for the night.

You can catch the 2023 final on BBC One at 8pm UK time, as the show will be broadcast live from the Liverpool Arena.

While the Eurovision Song Contest started with just seven countries in 1956, it’s grown to include 37 – but who is at the bottom of the pile statistically?

Which country has finished last the most at Eurovision?

This may come as a shock, but Norway is the country who have come last the most throughout Eurovision’s history.

Norway has finished last 11 times in total and has scored nul points four times.

But it isn’t all bad, as Norway has also won the contest three times and scored the biggest victory ever in 2009 with a huge margin.

    In 1963, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1981, 1990, 1997, 2001, 2004 and in the Grand Final of 2012, they weren’t so lucky…

The luck is actually with the Irish, as Ireland boasts the title of the country with the most wins with seven victories.

Close second is Sweden which has won six times, while Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands, and the UK (wo!) have all won five times.

How many times has the UK been last?

It’s not all one big success story for the UK, as we’ve come last as many times as we’ve won the Eurovision Song Contest.

Out of 64 appearances in total, we’ve come last five times.

What are the odds for Eurovision final 2023?

According to Ladbrokes, Israel’s odds have slashed overnight from 20/1 to just 9/1 making Noa Kirel with Unicorn a ‘genuine contender’ and third favourite behind Sweden (1/2) and Finland (5/2).

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s odds are 12/1, Belgium’s 20/1, and Spain are standing at 28/1.

Unfortunately, the UK is currently somewhat less likely to win with odds of 40/1…
