Weather UK live: Snow and ice warnings across country as cold snap could see temperatures hit -20C
Three fresh weather warnings for ice have been issued by the Met Office as an icy blast continues to sweep the UK.
Two of the ice warnings will cover most of England’s east coast, Wales, the Midlands northwest England, and Northern Ireland until 10am on Friday.
“Scattered wintry showers on Thursday evening will slowly fade overnight, leading to the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing,” the Met Office says.
A snow and ice warning for northern Scotland will now last until 10am tomorrow, and a yellow ice warning will cover southwest England and south Wales from 3am until 11am on Friday.
It comes as Manchester Airport has warned of flight delays after reopening its runways, which were closed on Thursday morning due to “significant levels of snow”.
“Our runways are now open but, as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays.” the airport said on X.
Hundreds of schools have also been closed for the fourth day running as a result of the icy blast, with an amber cold weather alert remaining in place until Sunday.
