Amid soaring tensions between Pakistan and India, a few local celebrities and public figures have reacted to the ongoing crisis but with remarkable restraint.

We need peace! We need words! We need to grow and not regress! There is nothing exciting or spectacular about war, we are talking about REAL HUMAN lives 😔🙏🏼

    — Hadiqa Kiani (@Hadiqa_Kiani) February 26, 2019

Pakistan has expressed its intention to crack down on terrorism and initiate a dialogue with india. Perhaps the best gesture to gain Indias trust at this point would be the safe return of Wing Commander Abhinandan back home.

British minister to urge India, Pakistan to ‘exercise restraint’

British Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific, Mark Field, has said that he will talk to Indian and Pakistani envoys to urge their countries to exercise restraint.

Pakistani citizens call for captured Indian pilot to be treated with dignity

I as a citizen of Pakistan request my govt to treat the “captive” Indian pilot well and send him back ASAP as a gesture of peace. Come on Pakistan you can do this #SayNoToWar

    — Tooba (@Tooba_Sd) February 27, 2019

Please note there are many Pakistani voices calling for the Indian airforce pilot in custody to be treated with dignity.

Two videos on social media show the Pakistani troops stopping the locals, who'd found the Indian pilot, from beating him. One shouts 'bas bas, nahi maaro'. There is also the sound of two shots fired in the air to push back the crowd. 1/2

After the Pakistan state minister announced successful airstrikes across the Line of Control and subsequent capture of Indian pilot, prominent Pakistanis took to Twitter to call for the captured pilots to be treated with dignity and respect.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has spoken separately with foreign ministers of India and Pakistan, urging them to avoid “further military activity”.

“I expressed to both ministers that we encourage India and Pakistan to exercise restraint, and avoid escalation at any cost,” Mr Pompeo said.

Russia has expressed “serious concern” over the escalation of tensions.

Moscow called on both sides to exercise “restraint”, adding that existing problems should be solved by “political and diplomatic means”.

China and the EU nations have also made similar comments.
