We For India: Saving Lives: Celebs Ed Sheeran, Mick Jagger and more unite for Covid relief work in India

Annie Lennox, Ed Sheeran and Mick Jagger will join Bollywood superstars to raise funds for Covid relief work in India.

The virtual event – We For India: Saving Lives – will take place on Sunday 15 August, in both London and Mumbai.

The event will be run by social impact enterprise The WorldWe Want – will be livestreamed on Facebook and will last for three hours.

More than 80 India performers will be joined by Nile Rodgers, Sister Sledge, Jay Sheety and Nancy Ajram, the event will be hosted by Rajkummar Rao.

    India Covid crisis

India is in crisis with its deadly second covid wave this spring and summer, leading to hospital admissions soar.

Many have turned to crowdfunding to help pay for their medical bills.

India has faced the horror of hospitals running out of oxygen, with the distressing scenes shown around the world.

India’s government is planning to vaccinate the entire adult population by the end of 2021. But it is not known if they will have enough Covid doses.

Proceeds from the event will go to helping provide ventilators, oxygen concentrators and ICU units, as well as essential medicines.

Funds will also go towards supporting the staffing of vaccination centres, and helping those who have been forced into poverty by the virus.
