Daily Express – Voting Reform risks losing hundreds of Tory MPs for a generation

    July 2, 2024

Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch has said in the Daily Express wavering voters could wipe out hundreds of Tories in exchange for “a few inexperienced Reform candidates”. She says that “now is a time for serious politics” and that “all our lives depend on it”.

Uefa’s investigation into Jude Bellingham makes the front page – the paper says hero Jude faces a ban.

Backing Reform risks wiping out 100s of Tory MP for a generation, warns Kemi Badenoch

Kemi Badenoch warns wavering voters that backing Nigel Farage risks wiping out hundreds of Tory MPs for just “a few inexperienced Reform candidates” in return. In a direct appeal to Express readers, the Business Secretary said she understands the frustration and anger many feel over rising immigration. But with just days to go before polls open, she warns that change for the sake of it will leave the country worse off. Writing in the Express, Ms Badenoch urges voters to back the Tories, insisting “all our lives depend on it”.

Jude Bellingham under investigation by UEFA for actions in Slovakia win

Jude Bellingham is being investigated by UEFA following England’s dramatic win over Slovakia. Less than 24 hours after his injury time heroics salvaged his country’s campaign at Euro 2024, the 21-year-old has learned he could face disciplinary proceedings over an apparent x-rated hand gesture. As he returned to his own half after scoring his overhead kick, Bellingham appeared to make a crotch-grabbing gesture. However, he later took to social media to offer his own explanation. Responding to a post on X which claimed his actions were directed Slovakia’s players and coaches, he wrote: “Inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”

Tell-tale sign David Beckham and Katherine Jenkins are ‘still feuding’ in Wimbledon run-in

David Beckham appeared to avoid Katherine Jenkins as he came face to face with the Welsh singer at Wimbledon. The SW19 tournament got underway on Monday (July 1), with a number of celebrities attending to watch the world’s best tennis players on Centre Court. David, 49, is a regular at the tournament and was seated one row in front of Katherine, 44, in the Royal Box. David and the opera singer have a complicated relationship after the former footballer lashed out following the discovery that she was receiving an OBE and he wasn’t. In a leaked email sent to his PR in 2017, David raged that he wasn’t included in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list, writing: “Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F***ing joke.”

    uk general election 2024

    Editorial 02 July 2024.

It will come as no surprise that Tuesday’s front pages continue with their coverage of the upcoming UK general election. UK voters head to the polls on Thursday to elect a new party into power, with all opinion polls heavily suggesting a Labour government will be ushered into No 10.

With only a few days left the papers are firmly in their camps with who they are backing – and their front pages reflect that. The liberal left-leaning papers lead on Labour’s promises of a brighter future, whilst the traditional Conservative-supporting right-leaning newspapers warn their readers not to abandon the Tories and go to Reform UK. The papers say a vote for Reform will keep Labour in power for many years. The right-wing papers have accepted this general election loss and instead have focused on making sure the Conservatives remain the official opposition.

Elsewhere, US politics also finds space on the front page after the US Supreme Court ruled that former presidents are entitled to some degree of immunity from criminal prosecution.
