Vanessa Feltz consoles heartbroken This Morning caller after her own devastating split from Ben Ofoedu

Vanessa Feltz was moved by a caller in today’s This Morning and so felt compelled to share her personal experience.

The TV presenter, 61, split from long-term partner Ben Ofoedu in February after 16 years, following revelations he had cheated on her multiple times.

When a caller described their own heartbreak in an agony aunt segment of the ITV morning show, Vanessa was able to give advice from experience.

They informed Vanessa that they were struggling, especially as they’d had to move out of their shared home.

‘I’m going through something a bit similar having just had a breakup,’ Vanessa began.

‘People can tell you all sorts. They usually do like “you’re well rid of”, “good riddance”, and “you’re better off”, and yeah sure, in the rational mind.’

However, Vanessa spoke about how things are often less simple than that.

‘The heart is a complicated thing. A relationship that you believed in is a big thing and when it’s over you can give yourself a million pep talks, you walk the walk, you go out and have fun but there’s still that thing.’

She then turned her attention to reassuring the caller.

‘Everything you’re feeling is reasonable and you’re entitled to feel it. It’s a damn shame he treated you that way.’

Host Holly Willoughby then showed her support with a ‘Here, here.’

While this exchange was going on, ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall appeared at a government committee where she was grilled by MPs about her knowledge of Phillip Schofield relationship’s with a young runner and also asked to address the claims of ‘toxicity’ at This Morning.

Asked about the accusations of the culture at the long-running show, she replied: ‘What I would say is that it’s not something that we take that seriously.’

‘What I know is that when we talk about culture it’s incredibly important to me, personally and so it deeply disappoints me, right?

‘But we do not recognise that in This Morning and the reason for that is that we have tangible evidence to tell you that the vast majority of people at daytime and at This Morning are engaged.

‘That’s not to say we don’t take complaints about it seriously. We’ve had two complaints in five years about that issue. Both of them taken very seriously.’

Other revelations included the cruel nickname for This Morning viewers, and historic pay disparities between the hosts.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
