US launches more strikes against Houthis in Yemen
On Sunday, the US Central Command (Centcom) reported conducting additional strikes against Houthi missiles in Yemen.
According to Centcom, the strikes targeted a land-attack cruise missile and four anti-ship missiles, which were poised for launch against ships in the Red Sea. This action follows the joint US-UK strikes on Houthi targets the previous day, prompted by the Iran-backed group’s ongoing attacks on military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea. These assaults have compelled major shipping companies to reroute, significantly impacting international trade.
Egypt has reported a nearly 50% drop in revenue from the Suez Canal in January, with a reduction of over a third in the number of ships traversing the vital trade route last month.
The Saturday strikes carried out in Yemen’s capital city of Sana’a, illuminated the night sky, causing houses to shake, as reported by a human rights activist. In response to the US-led strikes, Houthi officials maintained a defiant stance and pledged retaliation.
