US foreign policy giant Henry Kissinger dies aged 100
Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has died at the age of 100 at his home in Connecticut.
He had served as America’s top diplomat and national security advisor during the Nixon and Ford administrations.Â
During this time he pursued the policy of détente which thawed relations with the Soviet Union and China.
He was accused of – at the very least- tacit support for the bloody coup that overturned a leftist government in Chile.
He was a polarising figure in the US, whilst he had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize he was also roundly condemned as a war criminal.
US media headlines reflect Kissinger’s polarising life in politics.
