The UK has woken up to widespread frost, ice and freezing temperatures as the cold snap continues to tighten its grip on the country.
The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings for snow and ice across the north-east south-west of England, parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Temperatures dropped to as low as -2°C overnight, leading to This could create hazards for commuters as there will be icy stretches on the roads.
Temperatures will remain below freezing levels this morning, with many waking up to -3°C weather this morning.
One of the warnings will cover the North East, the East of England, east Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber and parts of Scotland, as wintry showers lead to icy patches and hazardous conditions.
It will be active until 11am today.
Another warning covers Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset, which will be in place until 10am.
Another yellow weather warning will remain in place in parts of Northern Ireland until 10am today, with the Met Office warning icy patches will cause difficult driving conditions.
Those living along the North Sea coast will also see wintry showers.
The Met Office said: ‘Staying cold Friday, with sunny spells and some wintry showers, mainly towards coastal areas.’
‘Becoming cold again into the evening with a widespread overnight frost and freezing fog patches likely.
Snow has swept across the southwest of England, parts of Yorkshire, the northeast and Scotland, with the Met Office saying 10cm of snow is possible in Dartmoor.
An arctic blast has ushered in chilly conditions, with the lowest temperature of autumn 2023 recorded at -7.7°C in Shap, Cumbria, on Saturday night.
The UK Health Security Agency has put out its own Cold-Health Alerts for the coming week, warning that ‘significant impacts are probably across the health and social care sector due to forecast weather conditions’.
