Tyson Fury confirms the stern warning he gave Tommy Fury over entering Love Island

Tyson Fury has revealed that he was strongly against his younger brother Tommy Fury doing Love Island at first, warning that it could ruin his boxing career.

Four years ago, Tommy, 24, was propelled to nationwide fame when he joined the ITV2 competition, which is where he had his fateful first meeting with his now-fiancée Molly-Mae Hague, 24.

As anyone who’s followed the couple’s love story will know, they’re now parents to their baby daughter Bambi and recently celebrated their engagement during a romantic and scenic proposal in Ibiza.

Metro.co.uk recently had the chance to catch up with heavyweight champion Tyson, 34, and his wife Paris Fury, 33, ahead of the release of their new Netflix docu-series At Home With The Furys.

The show will take viewers behind the scenes of the couple’s chaotic family life with six kids at home (and a seventh on the way), as well as documenting Tyson coming out of retirement, mental health struggles and Tommy’s relationship with Molly-Mae.

During our conversation, Tyson admitted that while he can now see the positive impact that going on Love Island had on Tommy’s life, he wasn’t originally on board with the idea of his sibling becoming a reality star in the early stages of his promising boxing career.

‘I believe in letting everybody do what they want to do in life,’ Tyson began.

‘Because there’s always going to be someone say, “Oh don’t do this. Don’t do that.” But who is anybody to give anybody the right advice, really? Many people told me I shouldn’t box or I was never going to make it.’

Paris then chimed in to add: ‘A lot of people told Tommy, “Don’t go on Love Island. What are you doing that for? You’ll ruin your career,”’ as Tyson added: ‘I was one of them.”

‘Was you?’ Paris asked, as Tyson explained his former point of view in greater detail.

‘Yeah I was one of them. When the Love Island thing first come out, I said to Tommy, “Look, are you a boxer or do you want to be a TV person?”’ he recalled.

‘At the time he was just turned professional and I thought he’s gonna take 18 months to a year – like he did – away from his boxing career. And I wanted him to be a professional boxer, which he was.’

However, as we all now know, going on Love Island marked a massive turning point in Tommy and Molly-Mae’s lives.

‘Well, it turned out to be, it was the best thing that could have happened to him because now he’s a professional boxer, but he’s also doing the influencing in boxing and all that,’ Tyson stated.

‘So he’s making 20 times the amount you could have done out of real boxing. So it’s fantastic for him and his family.’

In July, Tommy and Molly-Mae announced their engagement after a four-year relationship, with the boxer getting down on one knee on a stunning cliffside as his partner held their six-month-old daughter.

In an update in a recent YouTube video, the PrettyLittleThing ambassador shared a crucial update about their upcoming nuptials.

‘One thing I can say is the wedding will definitely be in the UK,’ she told her fans.

‘We have had some conversations about the wedding and what we have in mind but my sister’s actually getting married next year.’

At Home With The Furys premieres on August 16 on Netflix.
