The BBC has revealed the air date for the first Hairy Bikers series since Dave Myers was diagnosed with cancer.

The chef, TV star, and former Strictly contestant revealed in May 2022 that he was undergoing ‘brutal’ chemotherapy and has since kept fans updated with his health.

Last year, Dave, 66, announced he would return to Hairy Bikers with his co-star Si King, 57, describing it as a ‘huge step back to normality’, and now the show is just weeks away.

The Hairy Bikers Go West will land on BBC Two on February 6th and its seven episodes will air in weekly instalments.

The travel programme will see the duo reunite to travel down the west coast of the UK, starting in Scotland and ending in Devon, with Dave even making an emotional homecoming to the county he was born in.

Each week Dave and Si will base themselves in stunning locations while exploring the changing areas through restaurants, recipes, and inventive new food entrepreneurs.

Their journey will begin on Bute Island, before they travel through Dumfries and Galloway, Lancashire, Merseyside and The Isle of Man, North Wales, along The Severn Estuary and Somerset.

In December, a one-off special The Hairy Bikers: Coming Home for Christmas aired during which Dave opened up about his treatment, after fearing he didn’t think he’d still ‘be here’ this Christmas.

‘The first lot of chemo was very, very destructive,’ Dave shared, recalling how he was told by an oncologist that he would be ‘taken to the edge’.

‘You don’t realise what an impact it can have, the debilitating effects kick in quite quickly.

‘My sense of taste and appetite went, I was poorly, you see your weight drop and you’ve got to eat, but it’s finding something you want to eat.

‘I had sores in my mouth. I would fall over quite a lot.’

Dave elsewhere addressed why he hasn’t spoken about what form of cancer he’s been diagnosed with, saying it’s ‘my business’, and he doesn’t want speculation over how long he has to live.

During filming, Dave, who underwent his 37th round of chemotherapy, got back on his bike for the first time in emotional scenes.

‘I knew I’d got my man back,’ Liliana said, remembering Dave returning to a bike shop and putting his helmet back on to take his new bike for a spin.

‘It was like a miracle had happened, because it was something we thought he’d never do again. But he does it.’

‘I was jumping for joy, not for any other reason, but to see my best mate doing what he does,’ Si added.

Hairy Bikers Go West airs weekly on BBC Two and Player from Tuesday 6 February at 7pm.
