Trump makes pitch to black and Latino voters in New York
Donald Trump held a campaign rally in the South Bronx neighbourhood of New York as he seeks to garner support from Black and Latino voters ahead of the upcoming presidential election in November.
Joining him on stage was Florida Republican Byron Donalds, an African American congressman who is speculated to be a potential running mate.
This event marked Trump’s first rally in New York in approximately eight years. As the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, he aims to connect with ethnic minority voters.
A recent poll by the New York Times and Siena College indicates that Democratic candidate Joe Biden is experiencing a decline in support from this critical voting demographic in key states.
The Bronx, a predominantly Hispanic and Black area, is traditionally a Democratic stronghold.
Trump extensively addressed the New York audience, highlighting his significant contributions to the city, where he built much of his wealth and fame.
“We inspired the entire world,” he remarked during his 90-minute speech. He expressed concern over what he perceives as the city’s “decline,” citing issues such as rising crime rates and deteriorating infrastructure.

He attributed these problems to President Biden and the influx of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border, suggesting that these factors have negatively impacted minority voters economically.
“The biggest negative impact [of illegal immigration] is against our black population and our Hispanic population, who are losing their jobs, losing their housing, losing everything they can lose”, Trump told the crowd.
