‘Travel-weary’ Morrissey slammed for cancelling show just hours before start
Morrissey has been accused of ‘making excuses’ after cancelling a show just hours before it was due to begin.
Starting his career as the front man of the Smiths in the 1980s, the singer then went on to carve out a successful solo career.
However, over the years the musician has also come under fire for his controversial views – specifically his comments critiquing immigration in the UK.
Morrissey is currently on a tour across the UK and Europe but has drawn the ire of many after axing his show in Stockholm tonight.
Although he’d been due to play a show at Hovet Arena, he’s now pulled the plug, whilst also lamenting a ‘lack of financial support’.
‘SCANDINAVIA! The pain at not reaching Stockholm this week is horrific for the band and crew. I know it’s impossible for people to understand, but we dream of Stockholm, Reykjavik, Trondheim, Helsinki, Aarhus … but there is no financial support from imaginary record labels to get us to such places,’ he posted on Instagram alongside a photo performing on stage.
‘In the last seven days we have travelled into six countries, and we are travel-weary beyond belief. We can barely see. We pray to God that someone, somewhere can help us reach Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark … where we have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support. No label will release our music; no radio will play our music … and yet our ticket sales are sensational. What does this tell us about the state of Art in 2025?’
He wrapped up the post by writing: ‘The wagon rolls on to Berlin, 27 June. With the grace of God we will all gather. I love all of you with whatever is left of my doomed heart. MORRISSEY. 🖤.’
The singer also strangely shared a still from the 2006 Norwegian slasher movie Cold Prey.
After reading Morrissey’s post, many fans made it clear they were unimpressed.
‘Why schedule so many dates without proper funding?? Just say you don’t have the money rather than making excuses,’ Lee commented on Instagram.
‘It’s called touring. Love the music, but seriously?’ Susan shared.
‘A very confusing statement, basically your tired after a few weeks of touring? Stockholm is almost completely sold out tomorrow so can’t see how you wouldn’t “afford” to make the trip? If your manager is incapable of booking the bands trip and hotel or arrange for crew and equipment to arrive, I would suggest a new management is long due,’ Robby added.
No other shows in Scandinavia had been scheduled for Morrissey’s current tour.
Ticketholders have been told: ‘Due to exhaustion among the band and crew, the Morrissey headline engagement at Hovet has been cancelled. Refunds will be available at the point of purchase.’
Last month Morrissey cancelled two shows in Los Angeles after being hospitalised for a ‘severe sinusitis attack’.
In January he’d also pulled out of two shows in South Carolina, with his tour manager then revealing it was due to ‘physical exhaustion’.
Over the years he’s developed a reputation for canning shows.
In the past 12 years, the singer has cancelled over 120 concerts.
