Tommy Fury explains how he and Molly-Mae Hague chose name Bambi for their newborn daughter

Tommy Fury has revealed how he and Molly-Mae Hague settled on the name Bambi for their baby – and it was years in the making.

On Thursday’s Loose Women, the boxer made an appearance in the Loose Women studio off the back of his huge victory against Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia.

The former Love Island star, who met Molly-Mae on the ITV reality show in 2019, explained how ‘tough’ his training was leading up to his clash against the YouTuber, which took place weeks after his girlfriend gave birth to their daughter.

Tommy, 23, explained how he and Molly-Mae, also 23, had ‘a lot of FaceTime calls’ when they were away from each other, as he switched from being an ‘aggressive man getting ready for war’ and ‘daddy’ mode.

Saying that he wasn’t ‘bothered’ by anyone who criticised him for being away from his child – stressing that he was doing the lucrative fight ‘for her’ – the fighter was then asked about the origin of the unique baby name Bambi.

Some fans might have assumed that the couple were both simply huge fans of the animated Disney film Bambi, which came out in 1942.

However, Molly-Mae had already settled on the moniker years before Tommy came into her life.

‘It’s a really amazing story to be honest, because obviously in the villa, we were talking about it. Then when we left, we were talking about it even more, having babies,’ he told the Loose Women panel, which included Charlene White, Judi Love, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore.

Tommy said becoming a father is the ‘best thing’ that’s ever happened to him (Picture: ITV)

‘There was only one name for our little girl, and it was Bambi because when Molly was young, she only ever wanted to call her little daughter one thing, and that was Bambi. So I’m not gonna be that guy to say no. And I love the name anyway.’

Charlene then chimed in to ask their guest: ‘How much do you love being a dad?’

‘It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. Forget the boxing,’ he replied, as the audience let out a collective ‘aww’ and clapped.

Molly-Mae first revealed their daughter’s name days after giving birth in January, sharing a picture on Instagram of the baby in her cot next to a Bambi toy and the name on the wall in neon lighting.

A few days later, she shared a video revealing the moment they brought the newborn home, writing in the caption: ‘Bringing the most precious gift in the world home. I cry with happiness every time I watch this video.’

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
