Tom Hanks and Bono looked to be in great spirits – or should we say stouts – as the Hollywood icon enjoyed a pint of Guinness in Dublin on Friday.

The 66-year-old Castaway actor looked in his element as he sipped on the frothy Guinness at Dalkey Book festival in Dublin.

Meanwhile his pal, U2 frontman Bono, 63, looked all smiles in some rose-tinted glasses and a black suit, as he posed with his pal, who was wearing a nacy ensemble and some glasses.

The Forrest Gump actor was snapped outside of The Church of the Assumption, where he held a sold-out show that evening.

According to the Irish Independent, during the event, the actor put on a pretty spot on Irish accent and thanked the late Irish artistic director of the Abbey Theatre, Vincent Dowling.

He apparently recalled how Dowling once told him: ‘I think you could be an actor. I would like to give you an opportunity in my theatre.

‘I would like you to join us as an actor, officially in the company. What I cannot do is pay you any money.’

The beloved Hollywood star has previously credited Dowling – who died in 2013 – for giving him his big break.

Speaking at the premiere of his new film A Hologram for The King back in 2016, he said: ‘The reason I’m here now is because of a fabulous Irishman by the name of Vincent Dowling from the great O’Herlihy clan.

‘He’s the man who taught me, not only what it’s like to be an actor and to pursue it, but he also taught me that work in the theatre is more fun.’

This comes after a moving video emerged yesterday of a neurodiverse fan hugging the Hollywood icon, and telling him how cult classic Forrest Gump ‘changed [his] life.’

It was filmed during An Evening With Tom Hanks at London’s Westminster Central Hall on Thursday, which saw him interviewed by Richard E Grant on stage.

Tom has just released his debut novel, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece.
