Most of Thursday’s front pages focus on Donald Trump who is set to appear in court, charged with plotting to overturn his 2020 election defeat.

Donald Trump charged
The Guardian reports the former president’s court date could be set to clash with the November US presidential election. The paper says the 45-page indictment accuses him of knowingly spreading ‘pervasive and destabilising lies’ about election fraud that threatened American democracy.
The Metro reports it is ‘Trying Times’ for both pop star Lizzo and Donald Trump as the paper reports on the lawsuit filed against the singer and fresh charges levelled against the former president.
The i newspaper picks up on the former president’s comments on his Truth Social network. The front page reports on Tuesday’s charges and Thursday’s court appearance – his third in four months.
The Financial Times leads with Donald Trump’s defence lawyer labelling the trial timeline “absurd” as the former president’s lawyer rejects a move to take the 2020 election case to court in a matter of months, ahead of next year’s US presidential contest.
When is the UK general election?
Several papers – including Metro – carry remarks by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who says a general election is unlikely to occur before January 2025.
Rishi Sunak’s LBC phone-in features on the front of the Daily Mirror – which queries comments made by the prime minister about NHS doctor strikes being blamed for rising waiting lists.
The Daily Express reports the PM has said a pay offer on the table for doctors is “final.”
