This ‘cosy’ one-room Hackney Wick flat will cost you an eye-watering £1,600 per month to rent. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll have to do some chores.
The listing asks renters to care for the landlady’s houseplants.
It says that watering them ‘would be greatly appreciated but not burdensome’, since there aren’t very many. However, 22 plants can be seen on the OpenRent listing, mainly in pictures of the living/sleeping/dining room area, as well as one in the toilet.
The flat is also so small that the bed has to sit on a shelf with no headroom.
The sleeping area is accessed via a stepladder, with a desk positioned underneath the shelf, as well as chair, a wardrobe and drawers.
We’ve been seeing a lot of sleeping shelves in London rental properties of late, with many needing ladders like this one, and others resting on top of chests of drawers.
Could we have stumbled on a hot new interior decor trend? Keep an eye out for more of these in 2024!

In this Hackney flat, which was renovated in March 2022, hopeful tenants will also find a two-seater sofa and a dining table with four seats near the very… compact kitchenette.
All bills but electricity are included in the cost of rent, but there is no parking or a garden, and pets aren’t allowed.
As if that wasn’t enough to be getting on with, a deposit of £1,846.15 is also required.
According to Rightmove, average London rents have risen to a record of £2,627 per month, so apparently this is a bargain.

‘This tastefully decorated and fully equipped apartment offers all the comforts of modern living. Featuring a fully stocked kitchen with all necessary appliances and kitchenware, you’ll have everything you need to whip up delicious meals from the comfort of your own home.
‘And with all bills included, including a fast fibre internet connection, you’ll have one less thing to worry about each month. The only excluded utility is electricity, which you’ll be responsible for.
‘You’ll find a cosy living space that’s perfect for one person.’
