Three charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death

Argentinian authorities have charged three individuals in connection with the death of former One Direction star Liam Payne, who died on October 16 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Among those charged is a person who accompanied Payne at the hotel, facing accusations of abandoning a person leading to death and supplying drugs. A hotel employee and another individual have also been charged with drug-related offences.

Toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system. Authorities concluded that Payne was in a semi-conscious or unconscious state at the time of his fall, ruling out the possibility that he intentionally jumped from his balcony. His death was determined to be caused by multiple trauma and internal bleeding.

Investigators have examined over 800 hours of security footage, conducted nine raids in Buenos Aires, and seized devices, including a broken laptop. Hotel staff reported that Payne had been under the influence of drugs and alcohol, leading to erratic behaviour and damage to his room.

His body was released to his family on Wednesday to be flown back to the UK.
