Three out-of-control dogs escaped and mauled a pet and its owner before armed police destroyed two and seized the third.

Police were called to the scene on Handsworth Road in Sheffield this morning following reports that three dogs were running loose.

Officers then received another report that two dogs – believed to be of a bull breed -had escaped from a property and attacked a dog being walked by its owner.

The dog had to be taken to the vets while the owner also suffered injuries that required hospital treatment.

The dogs then became increasingly aggressive towards officers when they were sent to Handsworth Road to capture the animals, it is understood.
